Engineering Associates, Inc., on behalf of the Village, will be observing the construction to replace the sidewalks on the east side of Front Street.
The construction work is anticipated to begin the week of September 25, 2023, (subject to change) and will take approximately one month to complete, weather permitting.
Please be advised that any growth, obstructions, overhang, or other conditions that interfere with use or access to the sidewalks need to be corrected by property owners and occupants so this work can be done. The construction will require that an area 5’ from the east edge of the existing sidewalk for the work area be clear of obstructions, (this is the edge of the sidewalk facing your homes).
Ordinance 2022-08 of the Village calls for owners to correct “Any tree, shrub, or other growth that infringes on a sidewalk area and obstructs passage” and Ordinance 2018-05, Section 310.05 requires maintenance and cleaning of all public sidewalks shall be the responsibility of the property owner abutting the sidewalk.
Please see that these areas are cleaned and unobstructed so our engineering and construction teams can begin the work for the replacement of the sidewalk.
The Village of Burbank has applied for a CBDG (Community Block Development Grant) for the repair and replacement of the full length of the sidewalk along the East side of Front St. within the Village limits. If awarded the grant at the state level, the sidewalk will be smooth and ADA compliant with no steps at the completion of the project.
If awarded the grant, our goal is to finish all work by October 31, 2023. This targeted date is subject to change based on weather, availability of contractors, and other factors beyond our control. Members of Engineering Associates of Wooster will be in the Village beginning next week to start the engineering and design process.
It is the responsibility of the homeowners along the East side of Front St. to clear all debris and any overhanging shrubs and/or trees from the sidewalk along this route. If you are a homeowner unable to complete this requirement, please let us know.
